The history of the Naihehe caves starts in 1865 with a European missionary named Reverend Thomas Baker who was killed and eaten by the local Fijian Tribe. His half eaten shoe can still be seen at the Suva National Museum.
The caves are mirrored by a beautiful aqua pool of water. Cannibalism and tribal warfare were rife in those days. The caves have a spiritual feel and a sense of a painful history about them. The caves are being utilised as a wedding destination in more recent times hopefully bringing a sense of happiness and good tidings to an unfortunate sad historical destination.
